DEVASTATING 3-GENERATIONS TRIPLE DEATH TRAGEDY STRIKES LOKONO FAMILY OF TAINO KIN ALLIES IN GUYANA
It is with great sorrow that the United Confederation of Taíno People (UCTP) announces the heartbreaking and tragic loss of a beloved Lokono grandmother, mother, and granddaughter - in a terrible car accident on Saturday November 30th 2024 - around sunset, on Pakuri Autonomous Lokono-Arawak Territory in Guyana.
Gone too soon are: Olive Andrews 63 (traditional ladies handcraft artisan), Athina Andrews 29 - her daughter and former Miss Amerindian Heritage Beauty Queen for Region 4 in Guyana, and 7 year old Emma Andrews (Granddaughter of Olive, and daughter of Athina), all of whom lived with their Grandfather Berthram Andrews (former Jaguar Battalion Soldier of the Guyana Army), who's world has been shattered into a million pieces in this one sudden and overwhelming tragedy, and we can only imagine the emotional turmoil of this well loved man, to have lost his one and only true love of over 40 years, and their youngest daughter, and their only granddaughter from her also, in the blink of a tear-filled eye.
The Andrews family lost their eldest son Rawelins just a few years ago - on December 31st 2017, and before that in the 1990's , the family lost their entire home and all their earthly possessions to a house fire, as human beings we ask ourselves - how much close personal grief can a person bear before they reach their breaking point? On both previous occasions the UCTP reached out to assist this well-loved family in whatever we could at the time, and this is why we decided to ask the public to join us again - in offering a helping hand to this family - for both the catastrophe and the pain of patriarch Berthram 'Brookie' Andrews and his 7 surviving children (Kim, Harvey, Nester, John, Penelope, Annabelle & Penencia) are now at a previously unimaginable unprecedented level.
Over the UCTP's 3 decades of alliance and close collaboration with the Eagle Clan Lokono-Arawaks of Guyana & Barbados, this particular family have always been the first to volunteer to participate in any and every traditional activity, event, and collaboration - that was undertaken to preserve and promote Lokono ancestral culture - in every way, shape, and form, including in the documentary that was collectively sponsored called 'The Last Arawak Girl Born in Barbados - A 17th Century Tale' (available for free viewing on YouTube), and in this film in the last 2 minutes (from minute 19.10) you can see Berthams father - beloved elder master traditional weapon & craft maker Joseph Simon (who departed this world in 2020), as well as Olive and Athina, and several of their children.
With your kind help, the UCTP seeks to once again, provide a glimmer of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation, to our friend and tribal kin - Mr Berthram 'Brookie' Andrews, at this sad time, we thank you in advance for your kind consideration and generosity.
